Domestic Voilence in Middle East

Domestic violence is an endemic social problem. According to a 2009 study by Human Rights Watch, it is estimated that between 70 and 90 percent of women have suffered some form of abuse. It is estimated that 5,000 women die each year from domestic violence, with thousands of people being mutilated or disabled. Most victims of violence have no legal recourse. Police authorities do not treat domestic violence as a crime and generally refuse to register cases brought before them. Taking into account the very few shelters for women in the country, the victims have a limited capacity to escape from violent situations
